Very Very Very Cool Event Series: Berlinale goes Crossmedia | via Peter Kasza's Blog - xtrans

"From 9-19 February the Berlinale will put the German capital under its spell. In addition to a huge number of fiction an documentary films, cross-media and crowd funding will be the hot topics of the film festival. This is an overview of the most important events.

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 10th

“Crowd funding – How to harness the power of the online audience to finance, promote and distribute your film”
The European Film Market (EFM) panel looks at chances and pitfalls of crowd funding and introduces the most important platforms and cases like “Iron Sky” and “Hotel Desire”. The panelists are Finnish producer Tero Kaukomaa (“Dancer in the Dark”, “Iron Sky”), Juliane Schulze (Peacefullfish), Jessica Caldwell und Rebecca Thomas. Caldwell and Thomas produced and directed „Electrick Children“, which opens the competition of “Generation 14plus”. The film was partly crowd funded. Registration is compulsory to attend the event.  Find more information here.

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 12th

Launch event Pixel Lab 2012
The cross-media experts of the UK-based company „Power to the Pixel“ launch this year’s „Pixel Lab“ at the Berlinale. The lab will take place in summer and autumn in Potsdam and London and will bring together media professionals from different disciplines and industries – film, broadcast, online, mobile, gaming and advertising. Producers have the chance to develop their cross-media project and get advice from the experts. Find more information on the power to the pixel website. Invitation required.

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 13th

„The Indie Filmmakers’ Guide to Cross-Media I: Storytelling in the 21st Century“
It’s not as „indie“ as the title may suggest. The cross-media panel is interesting for all producers, broadcasters and filmmakers. After evaluating some cases studies, the panel will focus on personal experiences and is up to for a general discussion. The panelists are Michel Reilhac, Executive Director ARTE France Cinema, Martin Elricsson, one of the producers of the legendary „The Truth about Marika“ and Cross-media-expert and journalist Caspar Sonnen (International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam). The panel is chaired by “Power to the Pixel” CEO Liz Rosenthal. The event is open to the public Find more information here.

„Distribution in a Crossmedia World“
The panel discussion presented by the European Film Market deals with the radical changes new digital platforms have on distribution. On the panel: Danish film producer Peter Aalbæck Jensen (Zentropa), YouTube Content Creators Manager Christoph Poropatits and the media lawyer Dr. Christoph Wagner (Hogan Lovells International, LLP, Berlin). The discussion will be chaired by Crossmedia-Expert Marek Walton, co-founder of The Mustard Corporation (UK). The event is open to registered EFM participants and accredited festival guests.
